How to Calculate EMI for Home Loan — Easy Guide

Understand EMI calculation with simple formula, real examples, and a free calculator.

What is EMI?

EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) is the fixed amount you pay every month to repay a loan. It includes both principal and interest, spread evenly across the loan tenure.

EMI Formula

EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n / [(1+r)^n - 1]

Example Calculation

Let's say you take a home loan of:

Monthly rate = 8.5 ÷ 12 ÷ 100 = 0.00708
EMI = 5,00,000 × 0.00708 × (1.00708)^60 ÷ [(1.00708)^60 - 1]
EMI ≈ ₹10,268/month
Total payment = ₹6,16,080
Total interest = ₹1,16,080
